When my Brother got married he had to convert to being a catholic and at first he sort of just didnt take much notice of any of it! but eventually his then wife managed to get him interested. he actually ended up doing an awful lot with the church, one day he was there when a woman was brought in who it would appear was speaking in tongues!
My brother watched as the priests began to exorcise this poor woman, he was amazazed as all of a sudden she began to bring up black liquid ( his words ) and i dont mean to put anyone off of their dinner but apparently this woman filled yes filled 2 buckets with this liquid!
My brother really isnt the sort to fabricate anything and i beleive that he saw this happen!
he also said the woman was fine after and in fact seemed to prosper! so maybe there is something to it!

Wow thats pretty amazing, what a thing to see !! Cant imagine that - bet its something he will never forget!! So did someone bring her into the church as if she was taken over by something nasty would it let her go in a church? just a wondering - the mind boggles lol !!! Its a very interesting account and would love to hear more about it. Thats the thing with the paranormal one question or theory leads to another which leads to another - it fries my brain half the time lol
One of my concerns withexorcismt is what if the spirit in question followed a differant religon to the exorcist (be it catholic, christian whatever). it wouldn't be bothered by their god or their 'power' as it has differant beliefs.
Lets say i die and i possess someone and they get in an exorcist. Most of you know how i feel about religon but i would find it offensive and go ballistic and i think in some cases it can cause more harm than good.
Does anyone have any thoughts?

I agree with your thoughts over religion and how a spirit/demon would react! it begs the question is it the power of the mind rather than the religion?
could someone with enough willpower push a spirit away?
I look forward to being possessed by you! lol it will make me a whole lot better looking! lol

Excuse me you two but what is going on here? Lmao
Must say I would be very worried about carrying out an exorcism to get rid of Laura's spirit, she's quite fiesty yer know!
It is a very good point though about the different religions. Maybe it works on the basis that the person possessed believes in that particular religion. Just an observation and not wishing to offend anyone but it seems that the Catholic religion is synonymous with exorcism whereas many other religions (including other sects of Christianity) seem to shy away from it. Does this mean that Catholics are more open to the paranormal or do they just believe that they are more able to carry out this practice?

Very interesting point Annie. I don't know a great deal about religions but I do remember someone 'driving a demon out' of a young girl in the bible - it may even have been Jesus doing this. [Where's my sister when you need her?! lol!] So this further begs the question, why is it prominent within Catholicism rather than other Christian religions? I don't follow a religion and don't believe in organised religion myself (no offence to anyone that does) so I can't really expand on this further - I'm sure someone will oblige. There is a train of thought that believes that criminals who commit the most heinous crimes may have been/be possessed by evil spirits, with some becoming labelled criminally insane. Mark - you can always practise wearing the blonde wig.... lol!

It is strange how the catholic church does seem to be far more active on possession than many other religions!

I've never really understood why Catholicism was into the likes of exorsism, and the like and the other Christian religions weren't. It's pretty wierd...

Hi everyone! Great thread! Firstly, I'm not trying to put a damper on things but when my dad had Gall Bladder problems he used to writhe about in agony and he seriously vomited Black Liquid. By seriously, I mean projectile!!! I read quite a bit on exorcism in my youth. (Twelve months in a hospital bed does this for you) and believe it or not, but the actual religion of the victim and /or the exorcee doesn't make any difference at all. You don't have to be a Catholic to benefit from a Catholic Priest performing a ritual on you. Which brings me to another point - Exorcism is almost the same as Witchcraft in as much as they both rely on 'rituals' to work. The casting of a spell, for whatever reason, takes herbs, talsimans, whatever - and a ritual or chant/spell. An exorcism takes tools like Holy water, crucifixes and ritual prayers/chants/spells! Interesting thought isn't it? Psychologically speaking though, surely the whole ritual of exorcism would only work if the person 'possessed' really believed they were possessed and if they believed in the power of the ritual itself. Mind over matter, I think! Sorry to bable on. I could go on for ages with this discussion! Ches.

hi Exorcism i have known people that called them selfs exorcist casting out of unwanted spirits thats fine for the person aflicted but if its just casted out it leaves it still in the building floating around waiting for the next unlucky person.so all things need to be guided to their rightful place where they can not cause harm to any one else.

The religion is a good point, but is still something that I would try if in that position.
Has anyone ever see an exorcism, I have only seen them in films and they seem very dramatic, not sure if they would be in real life.

I'm like you Star, if you were in that position I'm sure you'd try anything!
Again, I have only seen exorcism on films etc., and it looks pretty heavy to me.

I understand that it would be a difficult concept to accept Kel but I think maybe it could work purely on the basis that if someone really believes it will work then they will feel better in themselves and put it down to the banishment of the evil they believed they had been possessed by in the first place! (I think)
