The Red Lion, Colchester (With video!)

If you are visting Colchester it is well worth staying in the Red Lion Hotel. It's a beautiful building with very friendly staff. It is also extremely haunted!
There are 3 ghosts - a small boy that can be seen in the parlaiment room occassionally and has appeared in a guest's photograph, a ghostly monk that hangs around in reception, but the most active is Alice Millar.
Alice was a chambermaid at the hotel and was killed by a lover.
Alice has regularly been heard whispering and even talking to staff. There are recent accounts of people's hair being pulled and a womans voice appearing on a video taken in one of the rooms, with no obvious cause.
I won't spoil it for you by telling all about the hotel but if you are staying there pick a low number. The original rooms still have their original wattle and daub beams and are simply stunning.
They are also, obviously, the most haunted.
Over the 3 nights we stayed there we took around 2 hours of video.
On night 2, at about 2 AM, there seemed to be a lot of banging noises coming from outside the room so I grabbed my camcorder. The video shows an 'orb' or 'light anomaly' that appeared soon after the noises stopped. Unfortunately, at the moment, I cannot capture high quality video so the video file here really doesn't look as 'spectacular' as the real footage.

We got quite a lot of 'orbs' on film but this one stands out from the rest as the others can easily be explained away as dust. I'll upload more film of the lion at night later on.
Whilst staying at the Lion you should definitely go on the Colchester Ghost Walk. It is run by Derek Wray who is an amazing storyteller. Even if you do not believe in the paranormal its worth going just to see him tell the stories as entertaining and passionately as he does.

you shouldnt have any trouble if you are nice to them. There was a paranormal group looking around this weekend. If you are a paying guest I think they are a little more lenient but it's pretty empty at the moment which is great because it's nice and quiet.

Locations to check (based on what I learned while I was there):

The reception area
Rooms 5,6 and 10
Possibly 7 - I heard rumours that a group caught something on tape there
The tudor room (where a womans voice was caught on tape)
The parliament restaurant (scariest place in the building)
and the corridors around 5, 6 and 10 are *supposed* to be active. Seemed fine to me.

Its a great place. If you book a room online you can get it quite cheaply at the moment too.

I went to the Red Lion yesterday, didn't go in but took a picture of the stairs. Nothing unusual came out but the wallpaper...which was unusually lovely.

our group will also hopefully be investigating the red lion in a few months time at least.be good if EP get an investigation there to see what results you got yourselves.
