I once had a chat with someone on the MH forum about strange sightings up at St Michael's. The tower can still be seen from the A13 pitsea flyover, near Pitsea station. Only the tower now remains, but the church itself dates back to the 1400's and is recorded in the Doomsday book. There have been numerous sightings of 'devil dogs' or Black Shuck's, along with other strange paranormal occurences. Pitsea's not the safest of places after dark, so I wouldn't recommend any of you go up there alone anyway, but it might be worth checking out. Have any of you had a strange experience up there or know of any stories connected to the place? I heard an interesting story today about how a group of teenagers were scared witless by not one, but TWO, huge black dogs with red eyes, in the early 90's. The group returned to do a Ouija board there and contacted someone claiming to be the 'Devil'. The next day one of the boys was found dead in his bed. The post mortem was inconclusive and 'sudden adult death syndrome' was recorded. The source of the story is legitimate and from someone who was actually there.

That's really interesting Irish. I've not been there myself but I have heard something similar regarding dogs and it's annoying me now because I can't remember where I've heard this before !... Be great to hear from anyone who has been up there though !! Mandy

To be honest, I'd be more scared of the 'living' in Pitsea, rather than the 'dead' ;D I used to know some rather unsavory characters there
