Both the church and the cemetery are reputed to be haunted.

Dark (black) human-like figures have been seen climbing the church tower and ghostly manifestations have been seen in the graveyard.

The church dates from the 12th century – and during a period of 600 years there were over 11,000 burials in just one acre of land within its smallish cemetry. The cemetry contains many sealed vaults of old British gentry.

Dr George Carey, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, used to worship his Christian God here – his parents are also buried within the grounds.

Lol Kurt I drove passed the church on 6th june, was on way back from a christening and was dying to take a peek, but hubby was put off because of the dodgy pub next door, (big SORRY if any forum members drink there), anyhow would love to investigate here someday.

PS Kurt there is a pub in Romford which is reportedly haunted, it is opposite Lloyds Tsb bank, where the market is, (cant remember the name).
Do you know anything about this location.

Hi,

The very old [medieval] 'Cross Keys' is a locals pub but it is quite friendly and there is hardly ever any [if ever] trouble in/ or from there. The outside of the pub and the rest of Dagenham village is covered by private and state CCTV cameras which are there to help prevent vandalism.

Re: The Romford hauntings: I did once read about this somewhere and found a small bit of info on ghostly church bells being heard once a year...

Not what I know of. I will search for some though and if I find a website then I will get back to you.

I really, really, really want to go, but my hubby is not impressed with the fact I am meeting people off the net in a dark location ;D

Maybe one day I will come on one of them, but for now I will have to sulk!

Well we made it back lol.

Its another great site! it has an atmosphere but it is not as intense as the hospital site!

we walked around the graveyard and i took some pictures with my digital camera one shows a strange blue object that seems to be coming from the ground and another shows two very distinct orbs!

I also left a dictaphone on one of the gravestones and i appear to have picked up some footsteps ( not ours we were a long way away ) a loud click then more footsteps!

Henry picked up on some energies and i felt what i can only describe as very soft hair drawn across my left hand.

all in all a very interesting evening!

I recommend the site to all.

We did.

Ive uploaded some of the photos to the msn site but their a bit dark! ill try to make them a bit brighter if i can!

There was a definate atmosphere there, not a nasty one it felt more like a buzz in the air, perhaps they were happy we were there!

When you say crypt/vault do you mean coffin or grave and can you actually see the skeleton inside?

Also is this outside of the church?

I think that it is such a shame that these vaults have been left like this, someone should be responsible for them.
