I'm another one who'd love to have a nose around Copped Hall - as for it being rebuilt - I get the impression it's going to take a WHOLE lot of rebuilding to get that ruin sorted so I don't think we have to do a mad rush to get there! Let me know when people are thinking of meeting up for a bit of a tour? Here are a couple of links I 've found for the Hall - the second one has details of tours. www.eppingmapproject.org.uk/Copt%20Hall.htmwww.coppedhalltrust.org.uk/ (go to the events button at the bottom of the page) Looks like there's one coming up very soon. Hi all, I've never been to copped hall, didn't realise it was in such a bad state. That's good news I don't have to rush around like a headless chicken. It's good that people are interested in this site (not just because it's up the road from me..LOL..) O.k maybe because it's up the road from me.....? Oh yeah...another thing... Mr Ree you didn't live or go to school in Epping by any chance did you? I recognise the name... Be safe. Mayanaka

i live in waltham abbey and copped hall is being done up again, prince charles visited a few months ago. the grounds are lovely as snuck up there one day a few years ago. also the hill where the car goes up is as you go out of waltham abbey towards epping you pass a jewish cemetery on right and then a pub, just past pub is right turn up to high beech this is hangmans hill. hope this helps.

not sure if you can drive up to copped hall without permition as close to rod stewarts so security tight also because they are doing some renovation doubt if they want people around there. did you know copped hall was also the setting for the beginning of one of james herberts books about the rats(could be the lair) used to have gates to copped hall on the front of the book.

Hi Chirpy Thanks for directions, didn't realise that was hangmans hill area. I used to live in waltham abbey nice area. I remember being told about the The Rats book being based there. I don't know how old you are (us gals never admit our age?!!!!) When the M25 was first being dug out in Epping, because there were such large sewer rats(small dog size)..Anyone with a gun(and official license etc...) was being asked to go over and shoot the things. They were everywhere.... Are you interested in going to copped hall? Which part of the Abbey are you from?..if you don't mind me asking. Be safe Mayanaka
