Hi guys, was not too sure where to put this thread.
I wanted to research a few locations, but i'm not sure how.
For example, i really wanted to search saffron walden, and have looked on the search engines, but the information that i want is not availiable.
How do i find out about past residents, or any incidents that may have occured in a location.
I think that this is quite important for investigating, because we can then verify any information that comes through.

Hi Res. One of the best ways is to get intouch with the local library and see if they have a cuttings index, some do. These are curttings from the local press about local events - paranormal as well - usually held in a file. Secondly get on line with the Essex County library services book database (Durham has one so I dont see why Essex hasn't) and see what books on Essex hauntings / Safron Waldron hauntings are around. Failing that go into the local library and browse the catalogue. a good source is the paranormal database is at : www.paranormaldatabase.com/Aslo look at the tale in www.rense.com/general56/sgshot.htmtry getting hold of Betty Putticks 'Ghosts of Essex'. Favourite haunts in and around Saffron Waldron see web page for details: www.saffire.org.uk/saffire/publicat/haunts.htmla paragraph on Saf W. at : [url}http://www.dangerous.freeola.net/Page_5x.html[/url] Hope this helps in a small way - research is never easy Chris

Sorry pressed Post rather than preview there.
There are also local history series usually Victorian - sorry but I have no idea about essex. Kent has Hasted, Durham has Surtees - see what I mean......
Buildings - first stop has to be Pevsner's Buildings of England - Essex
People living at addresses may be found in Kelly's business directories - invariably found in the reserve collection. Census records, just type in 1861 Essex census uk wont get the census bu may get ideas of where to look
anyway good luck
