on a visit to canewdon church in Essex a few years ago, i had a very strange feeling in the doorway, i had to lift up the mat by the door and underneath was a broken tombstone with the skull and cross-bones on..made as part of the floor..i was also given a book with a picture with an engraving. this showed men bringing back the dead in a church grave yard with what looks like, Canewdon church in the background. One of the tombstones in the picture has the skull and cross bones, just like the one in Canewdon..
can anyone tell me more about this ?
is the picture and the tombstone i found linked in some way ?
why did i have such a strong feeling to overturn the mat

Ooohhhh that's really eerie light !!  I've not of that before at Canewdon, I can only assume that it's some sort of sixth sense you have !!  Anyone else got any theories ? Mandy  |

well the church has supposedly been built on top of an older church, it mentions somewhere in the nicolas church pamphlet which you can buy at their service(which was word from word from a book of the church written in the 20's) that the skull and crossbones is a grave of someone important from years ago. Oh yea and by the way, the cow noises are actually cows. Theres a meat farm about a mile north of the church by the riverside. Sometimes the wind takes the moo'ing up the hill.

lol, yea its kinda coming my obsession. Im just determined to make some sense of the goings on there. The stones in that church porch on the ground are supposed to be the stones that the older church were made out of. Coincidently this is where i saw a bright light so this may have something to do with it. However the plaque which light was on about looks much younger than the rest.
If i had my ghost hunting journal book on me id be able to give exact details, but my dog has puppies in the computer room so im not allowed in there :@

we have found the same picture as the one in my book. the grave with the skull and crossbones is on the headstone in the middle of the picture, between the ghost and the two men. this is a dark picture so you will have to look carefully.. rstolley.com/JohnDee2.jpgthis picture ("waking the dead") is by John Deed and Edward Kelly and can be found on google/images under there names. is this the same as the tomstone in canewdon church |

its a work in progress lol, i'l write everything on the site when ive got time to do it, its mainly just old 50's newspaper articles, forum posts and pictures from years ago.
