Unexplained temperature changes tend to be found at haunted locations. So it is useful to have a thermometer as part of your equipment.
There are two main types of thermometers used for paranormal investigation. The most popular is the infra red thermometer, it looks like a hand gun and measures surface temperatures e.g walls, floor. It does not measure the temperature of the air which is why this isn't always the best thermometer to use.
The other thermometer used is the digital thermometer. This measures the temperature of the air. There are many different versions of the digital thermometer on the market, many (like the infra red thermometer) have lit LCD screens so you can easily see the screen in the dark. As these measure air temperature they are best for paranormal investigation as they can measure any temp changes in cold spots, warm spots etc etc

I prefer using data loggers personally - you can set them to take temperature and humidity readings on a regular basis and upload the data onto a computer to produce graphs etc.
As for laser thermometers, they tend to be contact thermometers so when your 'detecting' a cold spot in the middle of the room you're actually measuring the outside wall etc.
I think that the most important thing with equipment is to understand exactly what they are doing and how to operate them correctly.
Kind Regards Baruc.

I agree all equipment should be understood and used correctly.
On our investigations we use both types of thermometer. We set up in/out type thermometers normally at opposite ends of a room to see if there have been any unexpected drops in temp over night or if everyone feels the room has 'gone cold' suddenly this can be confirmed or not.
Laser thermometers are useful for detecting possible sudden drops in temp. If used carefully the laser pointer can give an exact local reading, for instance during glass divination you can keep tabs of any temperature drop on the glass which would be unusual due to the fact that you would think that the glass would absorb the heat from all the fingers placed on it. You can also detect cold spots on the floor to see if there is localised differences in temperature. (bearing in mind you should have a good set of baseline tests done prior to the investigation.) you can also detect if one hand is much colder than the other. or differences in any other parts of the body.
