There is growing number of paranormal investigators and researchers that are looking into the presence of negative ion fields during paranormal activity, negative ion in simple terms is static electricity and there seems to be links with a high amount of negative ions and paranormal activity, there are devices now on the market that detect such fields.
Today's paranormal and ghost investigators are equipped with digital photographic, temperature and electromagnetic field (EMF) equipment. The main aim of these, often expensive tools, is to detect and measure physical quantities that may be attributed to spirit entities.
One physical quantity, which is the subject of growing interest in paranormal investigative circles, is presence of negatively charged ion fields. Negatively charged ion fields can be created by natural sources, for example lightning strikes, and by artificial sources such as air ionizers.
The effects of a negative charged ion field can create a feeling of freshness and some would describe, "cooling". The presence of spirit manifestations, for example orbs (light anomalies), may indeed produce high electrostatic properties and negatively charged ion fields.
Further research is being done to work out any patterns of detected ion fields and any other phenomenon that may occur in the area where any negative ion fields are detected

Not much has been forthcomming in the last four years or so to be honest.
For me, the position is fraught with difficulty, as even if a discrepancy is recorded during an alleged event, the onus would still be to prove that the event itself is paranormal.
As with EMF meters - a reading proves nothing, unfortunately a little annoying detail that is usually fogotten in the thrill of the chase.
Kind Regards Cadoc.
