It's an Indian (as in South American Indian) ceremony that calms the mind and sooths the head and ears. They are hollow candles that are hand made, by the Hopi tribe, out of pure beeswax, honey extract, St Johns Wort, Sage, Camomile and pure essential oils. The way they work is they are placed in your ear and lit, a light suction action and the movement of the flame create a vibration of air in the Earcandle, generating a massage-like effect on the ear drum.
This induces a pleasent feeling of warmth and balances the ears, forehead and sinuses. It is soothing and helps earache and headache, ear noises, stress and nervousness. This treatment also frees nasel breathing.
The whole ceremony brings a wonderful sense of deep relaxation and happyness. It is also a genuin medical product, class IIa.
So there you are.....lol.....and they are wonderful!!!!! You should try it!
p.s. A good way to start meditating for the first time is to do the sitting still meditation. Try and sit still for as long as you can. Sit down and mark out 1/2 hour of your day and then try it. Sit in a hard back chair with your feet flat on the floor and place a clock infront of you. Note the time and then close your eyes and try not to move anything.....not even your tongue....the only thing that should move is your diaphram when you breath.
Every time you move, open your eyes and check the clock to see how long you were still for. Then go back to the beginning and time yourself again. Try and tell yourself to do it for a certain amount of time i.e. 3 mins (as you will find that even 1 min will seem like ages!!!) and see if you can do it. This way your body will get use to sitting still so when you come to meditate late on you won't be so fidgity and you won't find it as hard to sit still and relax!!!!

I am with Laura here, I find it really difficult to switch off and clear my mind. I would love to be able to meditate, so I also look forward to reading peoples techniques
