The wand in more a tool for casting a ritual circle......I suppose you could cast a protective circle with it around yourself if you like (but that also contains a method of imagining the wand actually casting a circle around you) if you are looking for a talisman then you could keep an eye out for a stone with a natural hole in it (usually found on sea fronts etc.) they are very magical and can be used as a talisman.....or you could make a talisman out of a stone/crystal that is precious to you and attatch that to a length of cord.
Most talismens are knecklaces or rings.....the crucifix is the christians talismen, the pentacle the pagans/wiccan's etc. I myself have a precious pentacle necklace that my mum gave to me on my 21st birthday....she made it into a knecklace out of a pair of earrings and she has the other one..........and because it has that sentimental protective meaning (i.e. my mum gave it to me = mothers are natures protectors) then I see that as my talismen.
Does that make sense!!.....lol.....the thing to remember is, whether a talismen is brought or made......if you feel an affinity with it on some higher level then you can use it in that way.
