mmmm im not sure how it could have been haunted in the past but not now.
When people build on land they can sometimes find that they have a haunted home/building due to whatever was there before,
couldnt this happen with borley.

The church at Borley was built before the Rectory and is on the opposite side of the street. Nothing is on the site of the Rectory itself; it's empty. There are newish bunglows built on part of the land, but far from where the hauntings took place.
Borley Cottage was the original home for the Reverend's and their families, but Rev. Bull had a family of 14, so the cottage was far too small; this is why he commisioned the building of the new Rectory across the street in 1863.

LMAO It's just a case of them turning up and asking what we were doing and where were we going. Seems some locals reported us after we asked for directions (this was way back in the early 90's). People keep stealing the village signposts, so you can never flippin find the place, but I know where it is now The Rectory was actually built over the haunting route of the nun and the phantom horse and carriage; this could explain why the nun was regularly seen at the dining room window...before it was bricked up! And explain why so many staff left after being scared witless while trying to lay the dining table and having a phantom carriage fly through the wall at top speed and exit out across the grounds

Thanks for the info Irish.. i reckon it@s the villagers themselves stealing the signs..works a treat when you think about it..blame the outsiders for nicking them, but do it yoursleves..and when they stop and ask for directions they know they've got you and call the locakl nick! Lmao! and yep, i reckon not too many of my mates would stay for dessert if a carriage flew through dinner either!

It still remains to be my fav ghost story of all time though; it's such a detailed phenomena.
