Electronic Voice Phenomena is a process whereby ghostly noises or voices are embedded onto magnetic recording tape by a process that we do not understand. In this thread we will discuss EVP's and the best way to get them on investigations.

Not that i know of.
I have heard a few very interesting EVP's on investigations and it has been experienced by many people that when an EMF meter starts ticking - EVP's can be caught when not heard at the time - so its always good to turn your dictaphone on if the EMF meter goes off

This is a topic that really interests me, so far though I have never heard anything on a tape. A friend of mine claimed to have a ghost in her house, and she left a tape recorder running while she was out for the evening, according to my friend when she played back the tape, a mans voice could be heard shouting, although the house at the time was empty.
The problem that I find with EVP is that the tapes recorded on may not be entirely clean, or perhaps the noises could come from neighbouring homes, and it could be possible that these noises from the neighbours would not be picked up with our own hearing.
An example that I have of this although slightly different, is a portrait that I have of my young nephew. When you look at the portrait from different angles(you have to stare at it) my nephews smile changes, and at times if you look really carefull you can make out a baby bonnet, although in this picture my nephew is not wearing one. At first I thought I was going mad, I was lying on the sofa and stared up at the portrait which is hung on my wall, and as the smile seemed to change I mentioned it to my husband, he too had noticed it but had felt too silly to mention it. After much debate we have come to the conclusion that it was somehow printed over an original portrait of a baby wearing a bonnet.
Saying all this I would love to hear an EVP for myself then come up with my own conclusion.

A work collegue of mine, has told me that she has a video tape that had some how recorded EVP. My collegue once lived in a haunted house and when she was out one night she had set the VCR to tape a programme. When she got home the VCR had not recorded the programme as the tape was blank, but instead crashing sounds around the house was heard, (several vases had been smashed) and a woman's voice could be heard comforting my collegues dog who at this point was crying.
My collegue is going to lend me the tape so that I can have a listen, yet how reliable this is as yet I dont know, but I will keep you posted.

can u use just a normal dictaphone to try pick up EVP's, and if u can is it a good idea to bring one on an investigation, like the Tutbury investigation?

That's a good question Martina...I wouldn't mind getting one for investigations.
