The Ghost Club Of Great Britain did an investigation at Tilbury's Coalhouse Fort in Essex last July, with interesting results.
They are busy filming the new Batman film there at the moment.
The other fort, Tilbury Fory, is also reported to harbour ghosts. This is the older of the 2 forts, dating back to the 1600's whereas the Coalhouse fort is fairly new in comparison.
I was present at an Ouija board session in Coalhouse in the 1980's with some creepy results.

It sounds like a great place... Can you tell us about ur ouija board experience?...The ouija board has always facinated me and ive heard of many people experiencing bad things. I have just started using the ouija board with no results as yet...i know people warn of the dangers but i believe if it is used in the correct manner, ie in cleansing before and afterwards, this protects. And also having someone there who is not taking part who can break it should anything bad happen.

The first time was at Coalhouse Fort with my 2 cousins and their neighbour. They all lived in Princess Margaret Road, which leads down to the fort. I sat out of the session as I had no idea what it was all about and talk of summoning up the dead when you are 10 is a bit daunting!! I can't remember much, but they got through to a man who liked children, but was a bit creepy. Adam, the neighbour, was the first to leave the fort and went straight home to help his dad who was painting the nursery for the arrival of the new baby. I heard later that Adam's family moved after the baby was unable to sleep in that room and they all encountered a shadowy figure in that room at some point. The nursery was said to always be cold and had an oppressive atmosphere. The second occaision was when I was 15 and my friends and I had just finished our GCSE's. We were all bored and they decided to do an Ouija session. I sat out again, giving warnings of what happened after the Coalhouse incident to my school mates. My friends were rockabillys and Jo's room had all 50's memorabilia in it. They used an upturned, heavy bottomed whisky glass for the ouija and began the seance. They picked up mixed messages, but one prominant one was from a spirit called Fred. He seemed very holy and kind at first, but when 'he' was asked if he was in heaven of hell, it all went still. 'He' was asked 3 times and on the third time we all heard a hissing sound and the glass flew across the room, smashing off the portable record player on the mantelpiece. The girls were sitting on the floor and I was on a chair looking over them. They all had one finger on the glass and IMO there was no way any of them could have lifted that heavy glass, with one finger and launch it across the room. There were no repercussions, as far as I know.

I think as teenagers etc we are unaware of the possible dangers of the ouija board and tamper with something which we no nothing about. The shadowy figure may have been 'the spirit who was contacted.....creepy I do however still think that if the board is used in the correct manner it can be an advantage in making contact with the afterlife. Its worth remembering as we open the portal we have to close it aswell

This is very true - the problem is kids trying these things or people that dont know exactly what they are doing. I must say i personally, would never do one, but thats my personal opinion on them, all i can say is that if anyone does ever do one - please please make sure you are with someone who knows exactly what they are doing and yes closing it off is an absolute must.

Going off the subject of ouija boards as they are one of the most dangerous things ever invented. Laura, you said about the clerkenwell prison, I take it from that you mean the House of Detention. We have enquired about this place for an investigation and have been quoted £750, this is well out of our reach but if you are interested, maybe we could team up your group and ours and we could get in there between us?
Other places we have been that you may find interesting The Station Hotel in Dudley (one of the best MH's I've seen) is very good, we had 2 possesions there in the same bedroom although it's not particularly cheap. the Old Chapel at Minsden in Herts is onother worth a visit. and so they tell me is The Ancient Ram Inn at Wooton under Edge altho I've never been personally (and have my own views on the place) this could maybe be combined with a trip to Woodchester Mansion

I would love to do Clerkenwell.
I can also maybe get this joint up with another group or two to split costs more. I heard tho that Clerkenwell is under new ownership and the owners want nothing to do with the paranormal? I think its good for differant groups to join up on investigations and am always happy to do it. There are still a couple of places left on our Wymering Trip, you are very welcome to attend. (see wymering thread).
